SKIN CANCER TREATMENT

A skin cancer diagnosis is never easy, even though it’s the most common type of cancer in America. Most cases of skin cancer result from excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, whether from the sun or tanning beds.

Fortunately, skin cancer is highly treatable, especially when detected early. One advantage we have in the fight against skin cancer is that most growths appear on the visible, outer layer of the skin (the epidermis), often in sun-exposed areas like the face, head, hands, arms, and legs. This visibility makes them easier to spot, so one of the best ways to catch skin cancer early is by regularly checking your skin for any new or changing spots and having a recurring annual full skin exam with your Dermatology Provider. Much like physicals with your Primary Provider or annual dental appointments, these full skin exam appointments tend to fill up weeks or months in advance and so we recommend keeping these appointments top of mind.

Mohs Micrographic Surgery is the gold-star standard in skin cancer treatment. The procedure is a precise and specialized technique for completely removing skin cancers.
