Basics of Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers, also known as soft tissue fillers, are FDA-approved medical products used to create a smoother and fuller appearance to the skin and structures of the face. As we age, it is natural for our skin to start showing some changes as we lose some of the subcutaneous fat that supports our skin. Our skin also starts losing elasticity, allowing wrinkles to show on our faces. Injecting these fillers under the skin allows the lines and wrinkles to smooth out, while others can create structure on cheeks and chins. The most popular face areas to have dermal fillers are the nasolabial folds (the lines extending from the sides of the nose to the edges of the mouth), cheeks, chin, and lips. Fillers have also been FDA-approved for other body areas, including the tops of the hands and recessed scars.
The FDA has approved four types of fillers; three are considered temporary fillers because they are made with materials that the body breaks down and absorbs over time. Since these materials are eventually absorbed into the body, the results of the fillers are temporary and can last from twelve to fifteen months to a couple of years. These materials are hyaluronic acid (HA), calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), which is used in Radiesse®, and poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), used in Sculptra®.
RHA® Collection is a line of designer fillers that uses hyaluronic acid (HA), a sugar naturally found in the body. These fillers help improve fine lines and wrinkles and add volume to cheeks, sunken eyes, and lips. RHA Collection fillers can last up to 12 months or more, depending on the patient and the area being treated. The main advantage of HA fillers is that because they are a natural substance in your body, they lower the risk of side effects. Also, if you are not satisfied with the results, your Dermatology Provider can use an enzyme called hyaluronidase to dissolve the filler.
What Are Neurotoxin Injectables and How Do They Work?
Neurotoxin injectables, specifically wrinkle-reducing botulinum toxin type A, temporarily block nerve receptors within the muscle, effectively preventing the formation of lines and wrinkles. They also alleviate muscle stiffness, spasms, excessive sweating, and hyperactive bladders. The latest addition to this category, DAXXIFY, gained FDA approval in September 2022.
Advantages of DAXXIFY
DAXXIFY is a great neuromodulator for smoothing crow’s feet, frown lines, and horizontal forehead lines. A key advantage of DAXXIFY is its ability to minimize the need for frequent touch-up appointments. Unlike other injectables that often require visits every three to four months to sustain results, DAXXIFY may necessitate only one or two annual visits.
While BOTOX® Cosmetic and other neurotoxins are derived from human serum albumin, DAXXIFY contains no human or animal products. Instead, it is composed of peptides and short chains of amino acids. This unique formulation positions DAXXIFY as the sole neuromodulator free from human serum albumin or animal-based ingredients.
The utilization of peptides in DAXXIFY may contribute to its prolonged efficacy, although further research is required to comprehend this mechanism fully. While DAXXIFY offers promising results, consulting with a qualified Dermatology Provider is essential to determine the right option for you.

Types of Facials
Some of the facials we offer at MetroDerm include the following:
DiamondGlow
DiamondGlow is an innovative skin care treatment that utilizes the power of diamond-tipped exfoliation to rejuvenate and revitalize the skin. This non-invasive procedure enhances skin texture, diminishes fine lines and wrinkles, and promotes a radiant complexion. Its three-step process exfoliates, extracts, and infuses skin using SkinMedica® Pro-Infusion serums explicitly selected for your skin type and goals.
DiamondGlow gently removes the outermost layer of dead skin cells and debris, allowing for better absorption of skin care products and stimulating collagen production. It consists of manual exfoliation through a patented wand featuring diamond tips. Various wand shapes and sizes enable our Cosmetic Specialists to customize the exfoliation level to match your unique skin needs. The diamond tip and a gentle vacuum suction exfoliate the skin’s surface while promoting lymphatic drainage, effectively detoxifying the skin. Furthermore, various serums are available to target specific concerns like moisturization, wrinkles, and skin discoloration. The result is a smoother, more youthful, and vibrant complexion that feels refreshed and rejuvenated, and you can see the difference right after treatment.
HydraFacial®
HydraFacial is an in-office medical-grade facial treatment that is non-invasive and virtually painless. It is also called a hydradermabrasion treatment which uses Vortex Fusion Technology to gently and effectively remove a layer of dead skin, dirt, debris, and impurities while hydrating and soothing your skin. Its patented technology includes three steps:
Step 1: Cleanse and peel –uncover a new layer of skin with gentle exfoliation and relaxing resurfacing.
Step 2: Extract and hydrate – a strong, painless vacuum suction removes debris, blackheads, and impurities safely from pores while hydrating your skin simultaneously.
Step 3: Fuse and protect – this part of the treatment infuses serums explicitly selected for your skin type and skin care goals to maximize your glow.
The Signature HydraFacial treatment option takes only 30 minutes, making it convenient for most people’s schedules. It has been shown to help with a variety of skin issues, including:
- Reducing fine lines and wrinkles
- Lightening dark spots and patches
- Cleaning clogged pores
- Reducing enlarged pores
- Clearing up mild acne
- Refining skin texture
- Improving elasticity and firmness
The HydraFacial Advantage
HydraFacial works on all skin types because it is much gentler on your skin. It is a very customizable treatment, so you and your Cosmetic Specialist can personalize it to your skin type and goals. Once you finish your treatment, you can immediately see the results. Your skin will feel smoother and look brighter, with results lasting longer than a regular facial. Plus, there is no downtime associated with the treatment. You can go back to your daily routine immediately. We recommend avoiding makeup for the rest of the day, allowing your skin to soak up the moisturizing effects. Lastly, HydraFacial can be used on other parts of the body – it’s also great for places like your neck, décolleté, hands, arms, and back.
Glo2Facial
You’re in for a treat with a Geneo Glo2Facial! It’s a great skin pampering session tailor-made for you. By using advanced technology mixed with nature’s goodness, Glo2Facial gives your skin the VIP treatment it deserves.
The Geneo facial treatment involves two handheld wands containing multiple attachments for three steps. The first step exfoliates the skin using natural ingredients and oxygen-rich bubbles. Glo2Facial’s Oxygenation™ technology enhances the body’s natural oxygen levels, enabling more profound absorption of active ingredients during the entire treatment process. The second step involves using ultrasound to help create micro-vibrations that smooth out skin and help with the absorption of nutrients. Geneo calls this step LUX for lite ultrasound experience. Lastly, a relaxing lymphatic massage helps reduce puffiness and redness while improving lymphatic drainage.
Combining these steps helps stimulate cell renewal and nourish the skin, improving texture, tightening skin, and providing a healthier complexion. The Glo2Facial is a great facial treatment, and it is also effective on other parts of the body, such as arms, legs, back, and hands.
